Piercing the Darkness by Frank E. Perreti

Ever since my good friend Ellaine brought up
Piercing the Darkness, a book by
Frank E. Perreti in one of our coffee conversations, I haven't stopped looking for it. I've searched in just about every bookstore I've come across but I think it's gone out of print because I just can't seem to find it.
Ellaine described the book to be a very engaging description, or more accurately put, the author's imaginative idea of the spiritual warfare we go through everyday; that which is unseen to us. I guess I'm intrigued by the subject matter more than ever now because it's only this year that I experienced how forces of good and evil battle for our souls every day.
I'll probably settle for an E-Book if the book is indeed out of circulation. But I need to get my hands on one real soon.

Wide Awake
I'm wide awake on a weeknight at this hour. Four minutes past midnight...
I just came from a very refreshing long weekend. Maybe that's why I find that I am in no way exhausted from the day and in no condition to sleep yet. So, I picked up an unfinished book and read on.
I'm still reading
Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge.

There's no way I can read that book in one sitting. I have to chew and digest each and every chapter. In so doing, I find that I am brought to so many realizations, sometimes so many I just can't take it all in. Though it's said to be a rather controversial book, I am taking it for what it is and reading the book with an open and inquisitive heart.
Having just read chapter five, I have taken some mental notes and bringing them with me as food for thought throughout this week:
- Many times, the treatment we get is in no way connected to the treatment we deserve. It does not determine our worth.
- Regardless of how we've been regarded and no matter how insignificant others make us feel, God loves us, knows and values our hearts' deepest desires.
These and so much more. Perhaps I'll leave the next chapter for next week in order for me to see how the last one applies. I'd like to take it all in in bite size quanitities.

Long lost hobby
It's been so long since I took the time to read and savour a good book. I didn't realize how much I missed this long lost hobby of reading until I actually had nothing to do but to snuggle safely in the covers of my bed with nothing but a good book to keep me company. This of course was due to the fact that I didn't really want to be out and about during last weekend's storm.
To date, there are three books I have yet to finish reading: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss, and The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis. This to me is a sad sad situation. I never leave books unfinished. At least I never used to. I think it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth; like half-baked bread. Even Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which wasn't even my cup of tea--I read through it til the very end.
Of course, I wouldn't wish for another stormy weekend just so I can have enough time to finish reading the said books and start new ones. I guess I just have to start loving to read again, so much so that I won't ever be "too busy" to read and relish a good book.

The Tintin I know is a male

I can't believe I'd forgotten all about
The Adventures of Tintin! Many thanks to my sister who convinced me to spend my National Bookstore GC's on volumes and volumes of Tintin comics. Ok, I didn't really buy that many, but it's a good start from having just one adventure out of the whole set of 24!
As little kids, tt was a series well-loved by both my sister and me. We both were so entertained watching the cartoon series on TV. The animations remained faithful to the original published comics.
Oddly enough, though we loved the series, we owned only one book, Flight 714, and we never followed it up by buying the rest of the series. It was probably because we thought the books sold at such high prices, especially since we based the cost on what we saw from bookstores such as Fully Booked and A Different Bookstore.
Much to our delight, the series was on sale in National Bookstore, and now we have the following adventures (and counting!):
The Black Island
The Crab with the Golden Claws
The Shooting Star
The Secret of the Unicorn
Red Rackham's Treasure
The Seven Crystal Balls
Prisoners of the Sun
We're still lacking 16 out of the total 24 books. Too bad I maxed out my gift certificates. I guess I'll just have to save up and purchase the rest with hard earned sweldo instead. With the price drop at National, though, that shouldn't be a problem.
