Current Cravings

The thing about being pregnant is that you somehow feel a sense of entitlement--entitlement to being bumped up to first in line, to getting first dibs on food, to sleeping almost half the day, to giving in to almost any craving.

I've been feeling that sense of entitlement for milk tea despite friends and my hubby telling me to watch my caffeine intake. I still get my way. So coming from my Serenitea experience last week, I've found two better alternatives. Of course, this is only my opinion.

Friday was no work day for me, so after dragging my mom and sister to choose kitchen tiles with me at Wilcon Builders Depot, I DECIDED that we had to get our well-deserved dose of milk tea and yummy toppings. We did, after all, a good job choosing really pretty yet inexpensive tiles from a sea of floor tiles, bathroom tiles, porch tiles, and kitchen tiles. I got myself a regular milk tea.

Sunday, as most of you would probably agree, is "Rest Day". It could be rest day from work, rest day from going out, rest day from diets. So, my hubby and I treated ourselves to Chatime, where I had a Brown Rice Milk Tea. And perhaps two hours later, I found myself buying a Lychee Yacult drink from yet another milk tea place, Sip, at Galleria. My justification? They didn't have too much caffeine in them!

Finally, today being the last day of this wonderfully long weekend, I found myself being drawn to Happy Lemon all over again. My husband had a coffee drink with cream cheese and rock salt, while I stuck to the same ol' milk tea and black pearls.

Maybe I'll stay off this craving for a while, as I see an every-other-day pattern. I think I've been indulging too much. But maybe, just maybe, I'll feel entitled to have more of it if I don't find a new, and hopefully, more preggy-friendly alternative.

Milk Tea and Me

What a great day it was for milk tea! Twas quite a sunny afternoon, so instead of going for my husband's usual afternoon coffee break, my sister helped us scout for the nearest (if not the ONLY) milk tea shop in the whole of Bonifacio Global City, Serenitea at Burgos Circle.

This was a welcome break from Starbucks since I started detesting (strong word!) the smell of my once-favorite coffee shop. If you're wondering why the sudden change of heart, I have one word for you: Pregnancy.

Tea, on the other hand, doesn't smell as strong as coffee, and it's more refreshing minus the caffeine!

The only drawback to this milk tea drinking session would have to be the messiness and stickiness involved in punching a whole into the sealed cup with such a flimsy straw. Oh who am I kidding? I'm not complaining. I officially love milk tea!

What Adobo Taught Me Today

I finally nailed it! I successfully cooked adobo for my husband, who's coming home in a bit. This may not seem like a feat to celebrate, but for me it is. You see, I tried this before, but totally forgot to marinade the chicken with pepper. So, it lacked a certain zing. It was edible, but it was forgettable.

This time around, I got all my ingredients in place and did basically whipped everything together to make this age-old Filipino cuisine. Without being too sure of myself, I actually think it tastes pretty good--yummy enough for my husband's critical-for-adobo-tongue.

My cooking mishap turned success paints a picture of how it is with other tasks I've embarked on in the past. I must admit, I do NOT have an eye for detail. Each time I tried to do something new, yet missed a tiny detail (such pepper), the outcome turns out never "outstanding", but merely "acceptable" and sometimes, there's no outcome at all!

Much like trying to run 10 kilometers, but failing to wear the right shoes, I finished the race, but my finishing time was pathetic.

Much like building a stamp collection, but neglecting to buy enough stamp albums to store them in. (my stamps are now lost in a sea of dust and other clutter somewhere in smokey mountain)

Much like decorating a new home and trying to make it look nice and tidy, but forgetting to install a nice shoe rack for storage. (our shoes are now lying all over the place; so much for tidy)

There are others I need not mention. I just realized, though, that despite how pepper or other tiny details can be forgotten, there's no denying that they make up the whole, and the whole without its parts is not and can never be the whole.

Note to self: Pay attention to detail. It's cliche but oh so true, Marielle.

Note to readers: That's not my adobo in the photo. That's a borrowed pic because I don't have time to "food photog" my dish.
