Burn Out Bright
At the start of this year, I knew big things would happen. Half the year has gone by and true enough, massive things have taken place not just in my life, but also in the lives of people around me. When 2008 began, I can distinctly remember a good friend of mine saying, "2008 is the year to end all years." He was so right on that!
Most of my peers are going through the same thing I went through a couple of months back: we're all looking for something more, a bigger purpose for our existence, and we become restless with mediocrity.
When I took that leap by leaving my comfort zone at the start of this year, I had nothing to hold on to save for God's promise that we, His children, were meant for so much more.
Switchfoot captures this sentiment so well in their song
Burn Out Bright.
Does it have to start with a broken heartBroken dreams and bleeding partsWe were young and world was clearBut young ambition disappearsI swore it would never come to thisThe average, the obviousI'm still discontented down hereI'm still discontentedIf we've only got one tryIf we've only got one lifeIf time was never on our sideThen before I dieI want to burn out brightA spark ignitesIn time and spaceLimping through this human raceYou bite and claw your way back homeBut you're running the wrong wayThe future is a question markOf kerosene and electric sparksThere's still fire in you yetYeah there's still fire in you!I keep cleaning up the mess I've madeI won't run awayI can't sleep in the bed I've madeI guess we just know we're made for eternity and we want to live like it. There's so much we can do in this life. We want to truly LIVE, and not merely exist.
